Day 5 — Say It Back: The Power of Reflective Listening

Most of us listen just long enough to prepare our reply. Today, try something different: listen to understand — and prove it.

Today's practice: In one conversation today, at work or at home, pause before responding and simply summarize what you heard the other person say. Repeat it back in your own words: "So what I'm hearing is…" or "It sounds like you're saying…" Then let them confirm, correct, or add more. That's it — no fixing, no advising, no agreeing or disagreeing. Just letting them know their words landed.

Reflective listening is one of the most reliable ways to help someone feel understood — and being understood is the foundation of connection. Don't be surprised if the conversation softens, opens up, or goes somewhere it wouldn't have otherwise.

Day 6 — Close the Loop: The Art of Acknowledgment

Ever sent a message into the void and spent the rest of the day wondering if anyone saw it? That silence is one of the quiet stressors of modern work — and today, you're going to be the person who removes it.

Today's practice: When someone brings you a question, a request, or a need today, acknowledge it right away — even if you don't have the answer yet. Let them know three things: you heard them, you understand what they need, and when or how you'll follow up. It can be as simple as: "Got it — I know you need the numbers for Friday. I'll have an answer to you by tomorrow morning." or at home: "I hear you — let me finish this and I'm all yours in ten minutes."

Acknowledgment costs seconds, but it tells the other person they don't have to wonder, chase, or repeat themselves. You're not promising an instant answer — you're promising they've been heard. That's connection in action.
